AN EMAIL FROM MY FRIEND...
Hi!
Are you going to be around the 1st week in August and, if so, will you have some free time? My 13 year old cousin, (BOY'S NAME REDACTED), is coming out from Philly to stay with me for a week. I think he would enjoy a day trip to LA and I am hoping to prevail upon you for one (or more) of the following:
- recommendations on where to go/what to see
- meet us for lunch or dinner
- a view of some "behind the scenes" something in that industry of yours.
- A guided tour that no one other than one MayNotLast could take us on.
At the very least, I would love to meet you and (MY WIFE'S NAME REDACTED) for lunch or dinner if you're available.
:-) (FRIEND'S NAME REDACTED)
MAYNOTLAST REPLIES...
Hey there! I'm not sure if I'm going to be here the 1st week of August. I'm up for a consulting job on a Russian remake (in Russia!) of an American sitcom and all I know for sure is: "if they want you come out it'll be somewhere around the beginning of August." I'll know more later but they did warn that when word comes the word might be: "Can you leave tomorrow?"
Your 13 year-old-cousin might really like to see the Tim Burton exhibit at the LA County Museum of Art on Wilshire Blvd (east of La Brea Ave): http://www.lacma.org/art/exhibition/tim-burton(The La Brea Tar Pits is next door)
He also might like to visit the Venice Beach Boardwalk. (Head West until you hit sand, Hippies, and medicinal marijuana doctors' offices) Mostly kidding. (not really) But the Venice Boardwalk (South of the Santa Monica Pier, North of Washington Blvd.) IS pretty fun for people watching, trinket buying, and Mexican gang-banger girlfriend oogling. (That's where that famous guy in the turban who plays electric guitar on rollarblades hangs out.)There's also the new Rock 'n Roll museum (I think officially it's the Grammy Museum) downtown: http://www.grammymuseum.org/(FYI, Downtown Los Angeles is a pretty happening place these days, but you REALLY GOTTA not be repulsed by Hipsters...)As far as the Show Business goes, right now most shows have only just started back up after their hiatuses (i.e. "summer vacation" May-June) so there's not really any "behind the scenes something" going on except writers sitting around big tables in the "Writers' Room" thinking stuff up ("What if...? Nah, forget it.") while waiting for lunch to come and pretending to take "important" calls so they can get the hell out of that goddamn Writers' Room. And if you hang out on Robertson Blvd. long enough (the hip northern end, not the grungy southern end, where we live) you might see pools of paparazzi, which means Paris Hilton is having lunch at the Ivy, Lindsay Lohan is stealing something at Kitson, or Khloe Kardashian is having the Frankenstein bolts removed from her neck or something. There's also the Seventh Veil on Sunset Blvd. (just west of La Brea Ave) where all the up-and-coming rock stars' girlfriends are strippers. Your (13-year-old cousin) may enjoy that. (18+ / Fake I.D. required)But I have a feeling he'll love the Tim Burton exhibit.

Thanks for the great ideas. We'll see how many we can hit. It will be like a scavenger hunt...1 stripper, check. 1 reality star celebrity, check. :-)
Said 13 year old cousin's 15 year old brother (who passes for 20 due to his 6'3" frame and facial hair)is wondering where he can find the reality star who strips...that way he can get it all done in one shot....
